But after establishment of the plant and colony, more than 5,000 acres of land were lying vacant, which was returned to the State Government by the SAIL. They were settled in different resettlement colonies where there are no minimum basic amenities so far. If these instructions are not followed properly on an urgent basis, then legal action will be initiated against the authority, warned commission member Nayak. It also decided that RSP should hand over 4,514.62 acres of unused land to the displaced families, to registered the land of resettlement colony in favour of the beneficiaries and allot at least 50% of shops at Panposh NAC market and other market complex constructed by the RSP.

That is why the displaced movement still continues in Rourkela. Though more than seven decades ago tribal people were displaced for establishment of the Rourkela Steel Plant and Marshaling Yard but many of them still deprived of the appropriate compensation.
